investing in tomorrow today

A day in Hollywood…..

Today was an exciting day, we went to the Californian Science centre. First we went to see the Space shuttle Endeavour, omg! How amazing it looks like a huge puzzle! On the top it looks like a patch work quilt. Then we went and made roller coasters with a loop the loop in it. Viv and I then ran a muck through the rest of the centre….we were in a hurricane, felt an ice wall then turned our hands black.  Oh and I found some police officer who were very friendly. What an amazing day, off to Universal studios tomorrow……stay tuned.

fun facts and Rollo-coaster

Did you know…?

Roses are related to apples and plums.

Giraffes blood pressure runs slower then a female human.

Without rot their wouldn’t  be skeletons in a grave  (ok that one is a bit grim).

Do you want to know where I found this information it was the California Science Center. At the Science Center we made many discovery’s and (as you saw) fun facts. We arrived and we separated into 2 groups, group 1 and group 2 ( I was in group two so this is my perspective). First we enter the museum and learned all about the famous Endeavour. After looking around we had to go to the Rollo-coaster station. what we learned is friction and gravity. we where put into groups of 4 and 5. we mad our own little Rollo-coaster. After this, since we had heaps of time left, we had been given a challenge of how many loops can you make with out it falling off or bouncing. the record was 14 but we smashed the record with a massive 15. No need to brag  but I did make it all possible by saying that the loops should be closer and that saved space 🙂 . we had a really good time and I would recommend going to the California Science Center to anyone who visits L.A.

LA and Hollywood by Alexis

At home I woke up 3 and it was great to get up and go to the school and see all my friend’s to go to America and see the teachers who are going. About 10 minutes we had to go and my brother cried and we told him we will face time him every night and he stopped crying. When we got to  the airport, we  went in and it was so long than we went to LA to go to Hollywood. In the room I had my friends in the room and we went to sleep and I did not get  up  at all. In the morning we had to get up at 6:30 and it was not fun and we went to see a lot of things. For dinner, we went to a pizza shop and I had pizza then we got to go shopping as a big group. It was great to go shopping with my Nan and we got a lot of things. Then I went back to my room and went to have some fun with my friend’s and then want to bed and that is all we did. Thank you.

The Adventure by Alyssa

At home I woke up at 4:00 am and got ready for the big day. After 10 to 15 minutes  me and my family got into the car. We drove to school and got ready to get in the van to go to L.A/ Hollywood  we got to the air port and did all the stuff we had to do. It was a bit boring but it was ok. After about 1 to 2 hours we got to the Delta plane and left. It was lots of fun at the start but after 3 hours it was Really Really BORING. I watched about 4 movies. Then we all FINALLY arrived. We all waited for a bit for the bus to arrive. We went to Northrop Grumman and that was heaps of fun. We got back on the bus and stayed at a hotel my roommates where Caitlyn, Alexis and myself we went strait to lunch. After 2 or 3 hours we had dinner. We went to the pizza place. I had some fruit. It was AMAZING. For dessert I had a sundae then went back to the hotel and randomly fell asleep. The next day we woke up at 6:30am. It was hard but I managed. We went to the  science center. It was brilliant. There were 2 groups and I was in group 1. 1st we did this cool thing how we had a rubber hose kind of and we had 4 balls and we tried to get all 4 balls during the roller-coaster and after that we had a look at some facts places in the science centre. There was 1 called L.A land  for example. After an hour we all had lunch and then went shopping. After that we got a ride back to the hotel then I had a shower then we had dinner. We went to the pizza place again for  dinner and it was great.

Finn’s experience at Northrop Grumman

Los Angeles is full of wonderful places, one of which is Northrop Grumman’s Headquarters, filled with information, fun and planes it is a very wholesome experience.

I learnt a lot about aeroplane development there and I saw some pretty amazing memorable things like…

satellites

various spacecraft

fighter jets

and a fun realistic 1 on 1 fighter jet game with real aeroplane controllers.

All in all it was a fun learning experience which I will definitely remember.

California Science Center

Today we went to the California Science Center. Our first activity was at the California Science Center, in the Education Center. We made rollercoasters in teams. In one activity we did rollercoaster loop the loops, one of our team’s broke the Education Center’s record of 13 loops with 15 loops! We visited the space shuttle , Endeavour. There were 25 successful flights up into space on the space shuttle. The fuel tank out of the Endeavour, the ET – 94 is the last remaining fuel tank in the world. It was also never used into space travel. The fuel from the tank only lasts about 8 minutes. We in counted our first squirrel today. We were very respectful of America’s wildlife.    By Lauren Villani

Roller coasters

Breaking news – the students in “Group 2” One Giant Leap program broke the world record for the number of loops built into a rollercoaster – 15!!!!!! Photos and video to follow!!!

Off to breakfast…

Just heading off to breakfast. Then to California Science Centre to build rollercoasters and hang out around the Space Shuttle!

Our aim is to get the students to contribute to this blog – so expect random comments and pics and things!

Everyone is ready to roll.

Tony Long, Rick and Northrop Grumman

We met Tony Long and Rick from Northrop Grumman today. It all began when I saw this YouTube clip:

It was the most amazing experience. Everyone walked away so inspired and more than half the group want to work for Northrop Grumman!

Thanks too to Northrop Grumman and a huge shout out to Joel Farrier and Morgan. Not only were they amazing company – and Morgan wants to go to Mars – but they also fed and watered us! I was trying to convince Joel to let Morgan come to Space Camp!

What an amazing morning! Sorry – not allowed to take photos!

Today is the day!

YAY!

It is 4:25 am and we are ready for lift off!

Off to the airport to meet the others and we are then on our way!

Thanks to everyone for their support.

United States here we come!
